"I'm your man, Steve Harvey"
There's no denying it, Family Feud is amazing. Steve Harvey's facial expressions coupled with ridiculous answers from honest, American families make for the most hilarious game show on TV.
I'm not the only one who tunes in to watch answers like this every night. In June 2015, Family Feud surpassed Wheel of Fortune as the most-watched syndicated game show on television. The show's popularity continues to increase as Steve Harvey and America's funniest families create ridiculously funny answers to survey questions.
What marketing techniques can Family Feud credit to this success?
To start, Family Feud created a spin-off called Celebrity Family Feud which, you'll be shocked, is Family Feud with celebrities as the contestants. Although it seems like a relatively simple TV ratings enhancer, Celebrity Family Feud also acts as a great marketing tool for the overall Family Feud franchise. By capitalizing on the most popular celebrities at the time for their target audience, Celebrity Family Feud can increase the publicity of the franchise. Some of their most popular Celebrity Family Feud episodes are "The Bachelors vs. The Bachelorettes", which draws contestants from the newest seasons of the popular dating show. Episodes are advertised on the same channels as The Bachelor advertises, as well as the same channels as Family Feud in order to draw in an even larger audience.

Another marketing tool of Family Feud is actually a subproduct of the TV show's design. Because contestants are asked to answer the top answers to survey questions within a short amount of time, their answers are often...unpredictable (in an attempt to not call them dumb). In the midst of the excitement of being on television and being so close to that famous Steve Harvey mustache, contestants throw out hilarious and ridiculous answers that cause both frustration and laughter from the show's audience. These answers are then developed into memes that go viral on the internet, and if there's anything marketers love, its virality. These viral memes create a buzz around the Family Feud name and draw in new viewers looking to witness equally hilarious answers.
Long live that mustache, my man.
I definitely agree. Steve Harvey has been the savior to one of the best game show formats ever invented as he saved Family Feud from cancellation. He is a very funny host who defies the stereotype of stand up comedians hosting game shows because he does what great hosts are supposed to do, listen and react. It's also why giants like Bill Cullen, Bob Barker and Bob Eubanks have been successful hosts. All were in radio, can ad lib well and react to the contestants responses. Harvey also has a radio show and ad libs very well. It also paved the way for Little Big Shots, his talk show and the Miss Universe Pageant.
